Fuses are cheap, though often only at first glance. They have several disadvantages, particularly when compared to circuit breakers.
Spare fuses must be kept in stock, generating storage costs. When replacing fuses, there is a risk that the wrong fuses may be fitted by mistake – if they are rated for a higher current or have the wrong characteristic curve. As a result, equipment and machinery are no longer properly protected. Furthermore, fuses deteriorate over time, which can lead to premature tripping. If a fuse is replaced while an overcurrent is still present, the operator is at immediate risk of being injured by electric arcs.

E-T-A's 1110 is an alternative to micro fuse protection with enclosed fuse holders in a vertical design. It is anultra-slim breaker/switch combination with a bimetal trip mechanism. This is a single-pole protected circuit breaker with push-push actuation for snap-in mounting with rated currents of up to 16 A. The positive trip-free mechanism and the contact-protecting snap-action switching mechanism ensure a long service life. It is also available with front and rear sealing to provide splash water, dirt and dust protection.
